Wow! Our Active Schools Week was so busy this year. We had all pupils from the Active School committee helping out during the week as well as teachers on the committee. We want to say a huge thank you to all the local clubs and coaches who made this our biggest Active School Week yet. All boys received stickers and certificates to celebrate the week. Here is a photo of Junior Infants delighted with theirs. Everybody is already looking forward to next years ASW.
Our last event of Active Schools Week was Tug of War. Cathy O’Toole from Irish Tug of War Association came to our school today to give a taster session to 3rd and 4th class. She showed them some tricks and tips. All the boys who took part really enjoyed it.
Today on our finalday of Active Schools Week local Basketball Coach Jim Connolly gave a taster session to Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class. They loved it and can’t wait to start basketball in 2nd class.
Jimmy Dooley from Carlow Cricket Club came in and gave 2nd. 3rd, 4th and 5th class a taster of Cricket. All the boys really enjoyed it.
Today Ms. Moore and members of the school spikeball team led 1st – 3rd class in a new game developed by the Volleyball Association of Ireland called Mini Spikers. All classes really enjoyed their taster session. We will be introducing it as an after school sporting option for 2nd – 4th class in the next school year.
Carlow Karate Club came in today and gave an excellent demonstration of what they learn in their Karate classes. Some boys from the school gave it a go too. They realised it isn’t as easy as it looks.
We organised another WOW and COW this Wednesday to encourage Active Travel to school. Parents, Pupils, Staff and siblings met at Lidl carpark and walked and cycled together to school.
