Active School Flag Raising.

We were delighted to have been awarded the much coveted second Active Schools Flag. We had our flag raising ceremony on the 24th of November. We are the only primary school in Carlow with a second Active Flag. The Active Schools Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.
We are very lucky to have a Carlow hurler on our staff this year-Alan Corcoran We were delighted to have with us at our ceremony some of Carlow’s hurlers-Martin Kavanagh, James Doyle, Dion Wall and Andrew Casey.
The pupils had a great training session with the hurlers on our new astro turf pitch. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing facility in our school. We had a competition amongst the pupils to name the pitch and the winning name was the “Eamon Ellis astro turf pitch”. Eamon is a retired staff member with a huge interest in sport.
We also had Eire Óg players –Derek Hayden and Robbie Moore at our ceremony along with Turlough O’Brien the Carlow Gaelic football manager.
No doubt our pupils were inspired by the amazing talent on display from all our visitors.

Active Schools Week 2017.

Wow! Our Active Schools Week was so busy this year. We had all pupils from the Active School committee helping out during the week as well as teachers on the committee. We want to say a huge thank you to all the local clubs and coaches who made this our biggest Active School Week yet. All boys received stickers and certificates to celebrate the week. Here is a photo of Junior Infants delighted with theirs. Everybody is already looking forward to next years ASW.

ASW Basketball.

Today on our finalday of Active Schools Week local Basketball Coach Jim Connolly gave a taster session to Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class. They loved it and can’t wait to start basketball in 2nd class.

ASW Mini Spikers.

Today Ms. Moore and members of the school spikeball team led 1st – 3rd class in a new game developed by the Volleyball Association of Ireland called Mini Spikers. All classes really enjoyed their taster session. We will be introducing it as an after school sporting option for 2nd – 4th class in the next school year.
